5.0 out of 5 stars Behind the Scenes in Paris, 8 May 2009
By Mr. N. M. Taylor "Neil Taylor" (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Walking Paris (Paperback)
In an era when most guidebooks seem to be produced by computers, it was most refreshing to come across one where the author has clearly taken every step himself. Only with his authority could one dare enter the courtyards he suggests, or push open gate doors that otherwise look threatening closed. One has to wonder at the diversity of his knowledge and descriptive powers; he is as useful a companion in the wide open spaces around the Louvre as in Pere Lachaise Cemetery or in the winding streets of Montmartre. The human weaknesses that took place behind so many walls also do not escape the author's attention. This is Paris truly revealed!Walking Paris

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 10 Jun 2009

This review is from: Walking Paris (Paperback)
The walks give a wonderful insight of bits of Paris that you might otherwise never come across. They generally avoid the (noisy, busy) main roads and leaad you through interesting alleys, arcades, along canals etc. Instructions are clear, and the author includes enough history to understand what you are looking at, but doesn't overload it. The walks have provided us with days of fascinated discovery.
