The best Whole Bible study book ever, 9 Sep 2004
If you are looking for 5 minutes quick devotions, this book is not for you. If you want ready made answers for life problems, again this is not for you. This book has mostly questions for each Bible passage and you have to work hard sometimes to find answers. The book often suggests other readings to enlighten us more on the subject. Though written by various authors from the first world, I have still enjoyed studing from a third world perspective, mainly because all questions refered to Bible passages.After inviting Jesus in my heart, I always wanted to go to Bible college which our Lord never took me. I joined ministry right after graduation. So, I decided to study His word on my own. Search the Scriptures was recommended to me in Gujarati (one of the many Indian languages). That was excellent recommendation. From the first day I thoroughly enjoyed using it. Even though the lessons are organized academically, the Lord used it to speak to me at different times in different situations. It took me four years to finish it. The Lord used this book in my life more than any other book or human instrument to shape my spiritual life. After finishing it in my mother tongue, I decided to do it again in English. I had joined Operation Mobilization (a missionary organization) then. My leader gifted me this one volume book. This time I decided not only to read and answer questions in my mind, but write them down. It took more than six years to do this. By the end I had 1400 pages of my personal study notes based on Search the Scriptures. I used the notes frequently to share God's word with others. It became easy tool for youth bible studies also. I decided to make a star on top of page whenever God spoke to my situation specifically from that day's study. I had 129 stars in first year. God's providence to use local means to speak to us!! Now, I have a computer. So, I have decided to type my notes and I am half way through. It is interesting to go back to what I wrote and have a look at my spiritual understanding and journey 2, 5 or 10 years ago!! I have recommended this to many many people and all have thoroughly enjoyed it.
