Product Description

Review
"Within this book you'll find lots of different information, ideas and approaches for developing your students' thinking skills. As with all my books, my aim here is to give you practical strategies for developing these skills, ones that you can actually put directly into use in your classroom. As well as offering you suggestions for exercises and activities, I also cover the organizational aspects of teaching thinking in a classroom setting. My aim is to give advice that will be applicable to teachers across the primary and secondary spectrum, and for those who are working in all different areas of the curriculum."

Product Description
Teaching thinking in general, rather than merely teaching thinking within curricular subject areas, has become an extremely trendy area of education. In Britain both the current Education Secretary and his last two predecesors have given it priority and devoted plenty of resources to it (witness the forthcoming DfES website on the subject). Few teachers covered this area in their pre-service training and so there is a large in-service demand (hence the rising sales each year of Robert Fisher's "Teaching Thinking"). This guide from Sue Cowley provides an entertaining and accessible introduction to teaching thinking for teachers of all levels, covering key areas such as problem solving, developing creativity and lateral thinking.

5.0 out of 5 stars hummm....who'd want to teach kids?, 27 Sep 2004

being only an nqt i found this book essential! especially with the class that i've got! this books gives you ideas on how to get their attention and keep it! depending upon your class, you will have to chop and change a few things and figure some stuff out for yourself! all in all though, its superb and i recommend you to read this! Even if you're not a teacher!

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting Doctors to Think, 6 Aug 2008
By Dr. G. Caldwell (Worthing, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I am a Clinical Teacher for Junior Doctors and Medical Students. This book transformed my teaching. Learning goes on in the heads of the learner. The teacher just has to ask the right questions, create legitimate time for thinking, and allow the students to learn to think. Doctors need to be the highest level thinkers in the team - this book helps to be a far better, more relaxed teacher.

5.0 out of 5 stars you don't have to be a teacher to find this book useful, 17 Sep 2007
As a parent I found this book fascinating and helpful in finding ways to encourage my kids to think. Too many teachers tell them what to think instead of getting them to think for themselves, and this book is packed with information and practical advice. I'd thoroughly recommend it.
