Product Description

Review

"Alain Badiou enacts a return to full-blown philosophy, striking as a thunder into the morass of postmodernist sophisms and platitudes. His work aims at the very heart of politically correct radical intellectuals, undermining the foundations of their mode of life!" --Slavoj Zizek

"One of the most important philosophers writing today." --Joan Copjec

Product Description

Slavoj Zizek is not alone in thinking that Alain Badiou's recent work is "the event of contemporary philosophy". Think Again, the first publication of its kind, goes a long way towards justifying his assessment. Badiou is nothing if not polemical and the most suitable way to approach his philosophy is precisely through the controversies it creates. Think Again, which opens with an introduction aimed at readers new to Badiou's work, presents a range of essays which explore Badiou's most contentious claims in the fields of ontology, politics, ethics and aesthetics. Alain Badiou has devised perhaps the only truly inventive philosophy of the subject since Sartre. Almost alone among his peers, Badiou's work promises a genuine renewal of Philosophy, a subject he sees as conditioned by innovation in spheres ranging from radical politics to artistic experimentation to mathematical formalisation.

5.0 out of 5 stars The First Collection of Essays on Badiou You Should Put On Your Bookshelf, 10 April 2007
By Joseph G. Weissman - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book features an all-star cast of thinkers whose essays truly help to shed some light on the burgeoning field of scholarship on Alain Badiou. For me, the most interesting essay was by Ernesto Laclau, but you should check out Brassier's essay on mathematics and Balibar's essay on the surrounding intellectual environment that served Badiou so well in his philosophical enquiries to date. This is going to be a text I continually turn to in my future writing on Badiou.
