5.0 out of 5 stars This made me love JK even more!, 7 Nov 2001
By A Customer
A lot of the books about Harry Potter have been very dodgy, churning out the same old material and stuff. This one is a lot better than most, and I learned some interesting things about the Harry Potter books. Philip Nel has done a lot of research and read a lot of books! And it makes you realise that JK has read even more books, like Jane Austen and CS Lewis. What was also cool was the part where he writes about all the original reviews of the first novel! Including the first ever review, where the reviewer got it exactly right. And at the end the book mentions lots of websites, most of which I knew about but two of them I didn't. Thanks, Mr Nel!

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for the Harry Potter fan!, 13 Jan 2003

I found this a fantastic little addition to my volumes about Harry Potter.

Linking the Potter books to various other genres and examples of children's literature, it serves to help the reader make links between Rowling's work and that of others. Nel takes the reader along on a journey through Rowling's world and explores the games that she plays with her readers.

The only downside to the book is that it doesn't and won't cover all of the Harry Potter novels - as some are still to be released!

Still - I suppose Nel could always go back and extend this volume to include all of the books - when they're all released and have been devoured by insatiable fans the world over!
