Product Description

Product Description

"Let There Be Rock" is the story of AC/DC written by rock journalist Susan Masino, who met the band during their first American tour in 1977. Over the years, she remained in contact with them, watching AC/DC climb to international stardom. Since 1977, Susan has interviewed the band many times and their friendship has lasted nearly three decades. Now she tells the true story of AC/DC's illustrious career and how they became one of the true great rock 'n' roll bands in history. The book traces the band's history, from their beginnings in Sydney, Australia in the early 1970s to trail-blazing the U.S. mainstream to the devastating death of lead singer Bon Scott in 1980. The band pulled together and rebounded to the top of the charts with new front man, Brian Johnson and the watershed album, Back in Black. Through it all, AC/DC continues their quest to build a legion of new fans in the 21st century.

Susan also appears in the 2003 DVD, Van Halen: The Early Years. Since 1977, Susan has interviewed AC/DC many times and their friendship has lasted nearly three decades.

4.0 out of 5 stars a great round-up, 17 Nov 2006
I'd say this is pretty essential for hardcore ac/dc fans, given the lack of any official books from the band. The writer is passionate about the band and has known them since the early days, offering plenty of personal insight. On the downside, because this isn't authorised or official, there are no new interviews with the band or significant insiders. As such, it's kind of a great round-up of everything you probably knew already, with extra details here and there. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it. Probably the best book on ac/dc alongside Clinton Walker's book on Bon Scott. I'll save five stars for any book that gets the band's co-operation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Roundtable Review by Tracy Farnsworth, 17 Oct 2006
By Susan J. Masino (Madison, WI USA) - See all my reviews

Perhaps the most personal and involving biography I've come across in some time, AC/DC: LET THERE BE ROCK delves into the renowned rock band AC/DC. Susan Masino brings an emotional feel to the book that draws the reader in from the first sentence. This book is a must-read for any music lover, especially those familiar with AC/DC.

It is hard to think that there may be people out there who are unfamiliar with AC/DC, but just in case, I'll offer a summation. AC/DC are a group from the 70's forward who came from Australia. Their loud guitar riffs matched lead singer Bon Scott's perfectly. After Bon Scott died, Brian Johnson would take over as lead singer and the band continued their climb up the charts. Their albums are a staple in my household.

The book covers every aspect of the band's history. From the members' childhoods to how the band really got its name, there are jewels of details popping up on every page. Some tidbits are common and others may surprise you. What the book never does is bog the reader down in overplayed information. Everything seems fresh and new. Kudos to Susan Masino for that! Also included is a lengthy discography that will appeal to both new fans and long-established fans.

AC/DC: LET THERE BE ROCK is one for the keeper shelf. With great sections of photographs included, there is a lot to experience. With Christmas right around the corner, this is a perfect gift for both young and old.
