Waits has become a must to my ears and my heart, which love the sombre tone in his slow ballads ( some of the worlds most beautiful)and also his rough voice in his more powerful blues works, or even his "destruction song", in which he sounds like a hungover Satchmo in a storm.
If you have ever heard Tom Waits, this is the book to buy to find these beautiful songs to play on your piano or guitar.
The setting isn't too hard and if you're even a semi-skilled musician you can get through without much trouble. I can!
Not that any of us will ever sound like Tom, but..

Have you ever strained to hear exactly what Tom Waits is crooning in his songs? Or do you wonder how many different ways he refers to the moon? If so, this is your guidebook. Beautiful Maladies is a compilation of lyrics and music to most of Tom Waits's songs, as well as photos of the man. If you're a scavenger for Tom Waits paraphernalia, this book can go on the shelf next to your Old Golds and cheap Scotch.
