5.0 out of 5 stars How In-Fighting at CBS Destroyed A Classic American Show, 15 Dec 1998
By A Customer
An honest and sobering look at what actually took place behind the scenes of, "The Judy Garland Show"; an initial foray by CBS into quality entertainment instead of the usual tripe just to give the hicks a laugh. This is the story of how a major network went about destroying what was a great opportunity for American audiences to watch entertainment at its best, because CBS changed its mind, after they signed the contracts with Miss Garland and her production company. The only way out for them was to undermine Miss Garland's self-confidence and interfere with the show's format, adding confusion to the process. An excellent book with a tragic ending. Only now are we able to see, through the emergence of videos, glimpses of the show and Miss Garland, who was at the peak of her powers during its taping. It is the first book I've read that shows Miss Garland to be a professional and always there to help and do more than her share. She was a woman of stamina, courage and professionalism, who withstood much when it came to the "business" side of show business. The greatest talent we've ever known. To quote Frank Sinatra, "The rest of us they'll forget, but Judy, never".
