5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent aid to understanding Nagarjuna's ideas., 8 Jun 2000

Try not to be frightened by the astonishingly long title of this book. Although there is more than enough in this work to hold the attention of scholars and adepts, even the beginner can benefit from reading it. The background material Jamieson provides is exceptionally helpful and I think will succeed in drawing the reader into Nagarjuna's world. Nagarjuna's thought is unusually rich and complex, but still has much to offer even the beginning reader. Every educated person should know at least something of the work of this second century Buddhist monk and philosopher who founded what came to be known as the "Middle Path" and who is still regarded as one of the most important figures in several schools of Buddhist thought.

Give this book a try. It can be hard going at times, but then, nothing worthwhile is ever really easy, is it? Jamieson has done a superb job with very difficult material, and anyone with any real interest in Buddhist thought owes it to himself or herself to have a look at this deeply fascinating work.
