Product Description

Synopsis

Published under the title "Allegro Sensible" in Germany, "The Art of Nude Photography" presents over 160 duotone images of sensuous and sublime female nudes by up-and-coming photographer, Pascal Baetens. According to photographer Jeff Dunas, "Baetens work reveals energy, a discipline, and a love of his subject. Baeten's photography has that essential "something"- you either have it or you don't. You can't learn it. That special "something" is the ability to truly reach your subject - create a vision, and have complete complicity with the object you are photographing".

5.0 out of 5 stars Art ; no debate, 19 Feb 2004
By A Customer
I bought the German version of this book ('Allegro Sensible') and was immediately captivated. The title may suggest this is a 'how to' instructional book, but it is actually a collection of beautiful b/w female nudes, mostly outdoor. The forward by Jeff Dunas praises the ability of Baetens, but doesn't mention that Baetens work is of a much higher calibre and definite artistry than that of Dunas himself !
If you like artistic nudes, you should buy this. It is simply stunning, and I will be buying 'the Fragile Touch' by Baetens as soon as I can.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Erudite Study of Form and Light, 14 Dec 2008
This is a big, beautiful book, full of imagery so breathtaking that one has to slow down to take it all in. Its dimensions are a burgeoning 13x10" and its 144 pages are packed full with exquisite duotones. The forward is written by none other than the great Jeff Dunas, a master photographer who sees amazing things in store for the young Pascal Baetens.

Perhaps not since Jeanloup Sieff was in his prime has a major photographer so astutely mastered the integration his nude subject with its immediate environment, whether it be a room in a house, nestled under a concrete bridge or even under the canopy of a great forest. Baeten's talent is glaringly obvious. The women he's used to create this body of work are not so much beautiful as they are interesting. This is not about glamour or fashion or even beauty - it is instead, an erudite study of form and light and symmetry, presented in a manner that is wholly and that of the artist. It is an electrifying achievement.
