I originally bought this book for the section on Canoe travel and procedure. I'd recently bought a Canadian Canoe and this section gave me lots of hints on canoemanship. Mr Rutstrum is quite obviously an expert on the wilderness way of life, and the whole book is full of hints and tips for travel in the wilderness rather with Canoe/dogs/pack horse than hiking. Although I will probably never go off adventuring with a packhorse it's never the less very interesting to read how it would be done. There is a good section on wilderness cooking and recipes and menus. An excellent book !!
