5.0 out of 5 stars Romantic, humouress and sexy, 7 Feb 2004
By J. Weaver "Ash Phox" (Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Raider (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. The 2nd of Jude Deveraux's books I've read and once again I couldn't put it down. The masked raider is gorgeous, daring and heroic. Alexander Montgomery is fat, vain, and the laughing stock of the town. So how is it possible that these two men are infact the same person!!? Jessica Taggert is beautiful but hates all men and would rather don her masculine fishing togs and go catch lobster than entertain a man; that is until the raider kisses her one night. She tries her best to resist the masked charmer but how will she feel when she discovers he is actually the overweight town bafoon, Alex? Jessica and the whole town have come to rely on the raider. He is a symbol of hope and strives to free the town from the slavery it is under. That is unless he is caught....

It is a brilliant and funny read. It had me laughing outloud and gripping the book in tension towards the end.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gripping ..., 5 Jan 2005
By A Customer
This review is from: The Raider (Mass Market Paperback)
I really enjoyed this book. I have read a lot of Jude Deveraux's books but this was a really riveting read. Jessica's strength and character is an inspiration for all women. And Jude Deveraux's depiction of Alex Montgomery is so great. I almost fell in love with him myself. This is a great book to read if you are new to Jude Deveraux. The book is fast paced, the characters are brilliant and the story is beautifully told.

4.0 out of 5 stars FUN READ -- CLASSIC ESCAPIST ENTERTAINMENT!, 1 Feb 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Raider (Mass Market Paperback)
I always appreciate a Jude D. book -- especially her well-written and well-researched historicals. "The Raider" shows Jude at the top of her game, with a story that offers the most unresistable of unresistable heroes, and a heroine who is smart and strong. (It was fun watching her learn to swallow some of her self-righteousness!) This is the kind of book you take to a beach and finish in one sitting. You won't be disappointed!

1.0 out of 5 stars boring, boring , boring
Jude Deveraux is my favorite romance novelist, but this book was seriously lacking. It started off good, but then came as painful to read as getting a tooth pulled. Read more
