Product Description

Product Description
Henry Rollins's legendary, no-holds-barred performances encompass music, acting and the written and spoken-word. In this energetic biography young writer James Parker plots the course of Rollins's career, from his punk rock adolescence in Washington DC, through his years with the seminal band Black Flag, to his current status as a cult icon. Rollins's profile is increasing all the time - as well as appearing in the big budget films Heat, Johnny Mnemonic and Lost Highway he has appeared in adverts for Apple Mac, the Gap and is all over MTV. This is a vivid account of twenty years of full-on Rollins. 'Parker's book is particularly good at charting Rollins's adolescence in DC, featuring interviews with school friends, teachers, fellow skaters and those involved in the city's embryonic hardcore scene, as well as his fascination with the notorious Charles Manson and his acceptance into the literary and spoken word circuits' Kerrang! --This text refers to the Paperback edition.

3.0 out of 5 stars Intensive Biography Of Henry Rollins, 3 May 2001
The fact that Rollins didn't want anything to do with this book would nomally indicate foul play but not so with Turned On. The book is meticulous in detail and content and doesn't shirk or miss out any episodes of Rollin's early musical career. It does however peter out towards the end and skims over his more recent stuff. This is a shame because Get In The Van (written by Rollins) covers the Black Flag years pretty conclusively thus making Parker's book slightly unnecessary. Still, it is a well-researched and well written effort.

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting, 27 Oct 2008
The chapters detailing Rollins youth are excellent. The book slides towards the end but it is still essential reading for any Rollins fan.
