1.0 out of 5 stars Impractical lower body exercises. Lack of objectivity!, 14 Nov 1999
By A Customer
Not a great book especially for those working the sports industry. This book's source is physiotherapy but not practical application from a coaches point of view. No mentioning what so ever on different research points inthe last 15 years. Upper body positions more useful than lower body position in the book. The stretches may work, but if they are the best way to stretch and the safest way is questionable, as it would be in any stretching guide. We need more objective books that leave decisions on which way and how long to stretch to the users. Someting like the now unfortunately dated Bob Andersons Stretching Bible of the day.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too long, no stretch felt., 2 Jun 2000
I bought this book on the strength of the reviews, but am confused now as to their reasoning. The 2 sec theory doesn't allow me to feel a deep stretch in the muscles, or safely push the limits. The number of stretches take toooo long to be practical for anyone, with the sad result that I feel I haven't stretched my body as completely (especially legs) as with the 'old fashioned' martial arts stretches. I presumed I must be doing something wrong, and queried the authors website, with no reply. I will now return this book and try Thomas Kurz's Stretching Scientifically.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic program that will improve your health for life, 17 Oct 1997
By A Customer
This principles of active isolated stretching, outlined in this book, have greatly improved the quality of my life. I was in miserable condition with many back, hip, and leg problems that developed through years of overtraining in bodybuilding and triathlon competition. I tried sports medicine, chiropractic, physical therapy -- with only minimal relief from constant pain and stiffness. By applying the Wharton's principles of active isolated stretching, I can now run again and participate in grueling martial arts training -- all without injury. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to improve their sports performance or wants to rehabilitate their injuries so they can "get out on the road again!"
