When I first saw this book, I thought 'WHAT! A WHOLE BOOK ON JUST LIPSTICK. fOR GOD'S SAKE!' However, I read it out of curiosity and found it really interesting.

The book sums up the entire history of the lipstick, from Cleopatra's concoction of Henna and Carmine, to the first lipsticks manufactured in Paris.

As well as giving a detailed insight into the types of lipstick and how it has developed over the ages, it sums up the symbolism of lipstick. The authors describe it as a sort of feminine weapon which is universally recognised as an icon of our times.

This book was really witty and interesting, and I would recommend it to any female who wears lipstick (which is 92%). However, it is unlikely that a macho footballer would want to read this. Although, you never know....

I have much more fun looking at Vogue and all the other fashion magz every month. I thought this was boring. A little silly. And very short.

The things people write about these days! But guess what? Lipstick is not as dumb a subject as I thought when I first picked up this book. There's a good history going behind the tube. Now I find out that there are actually TWO book s on lipstick that have recently come out! That second book is LIPSTICK, by Jessica Pallingston. If you're interested in learning more about the tube, which I was surprised to find of interest, the books complement each other. While READ MY LIPS has the photos and the magazine-style look, the other book, LIPSTICK, is stronger on text and substance, and goes more places with the subject, including what your lipstick shape says about you, and a full makeover section. Enjoy them together, or separately.
