5.0 out of 5 stars precision poetry attack, 14 Nov 2002
Ferlinghetti's poems in this book are like snapshots of his time: the people, the music, the hopes and the hates, but yet it isn't a dated period-piece. It's still relevant and funny and sad and true.

His language is enjoyable and musicable and hip, but never pretentious. These aren't mummified rhymes you have to decode to enjoy - they're ALIVE! like the best music is and it's like his poems leap in your brain and scurry around - you know you've read something great, cos it's still in your head months later.

5.0 out of 5 stars a coney island of the imagination, 12 Aug 1996
By A Customer
One of my all time favorite rainy-day-in-a-hammock classics, is Lawrence Ferlinghetti's "A Coney Island of the Mind." Ferlinghetti's mystical street wisdom makes him my favorite of the beat poets. Beat poetry is a celebration of the rhythm and textures of language. It is universal and it is political in that it is extremely personal, honest and grounded. It is a celebration of life and freedom. And it is so cool.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ferlinghetti's the man..., 31 Dec 1998
By A Customer
I first encountered this book in the late 60's when I was in high school. Now 46, I still read it and still find new touches I never noticed before. Unlike some cultural remnants of the sixties (Moby Grape and Blue Cheer come to mind), Ferlinghetti wears very well with the passing of decades. Read this book.
