The invention of Polaroid photography enabled artists to see their work within seconds, and thus altered the relationship between photographer and subject. Celebrating half a century of Polaroid photography, and published to accompany a travelling exhibition starting in San Francisco in May 1999, this volume presents 82 works from the Polaroid Collection. The images, which are accompanied by an essay, and comments from the photographers, display the artistic innovation and technical achievement made possible by Edwin Land's invention.
