Product Description

Synopsis

A house is considered historic if it is typical of its period, usually more that 50 years old, and significant in either design, materials, workmanship, setting, and/or association. This work provides advice on the ongoing care and maintenance of such properties, and in the preservation of the qualities which make such homes unique. Advice is provided by 22 expert preservationists, illustrated with photographs and explanatory line drawings, on the care and maintenance of historic homes. Every aspect is covered, including structural systems, roofs, windows, masonry, woodwork, paint, plaster, wallpapers, bathrooms, kitchens, landscaping, fire protection, insurance appraisals, identifying appropriate materials and procedures for repair, determining whether professional help is needed, and choosing the right help. Advice is given on developing and carrying out a maintenance plan.

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful introduction to repairing older houses, 31 Jul 2009
By M. Stribley (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Covers all aspects of maintaining and repairing older houses. It is not a full technical manual to every skilled craft needed to care for your home but it really helps the reader to understand how older buildings are constructed and finished and gives useful guide to carrying out the sort of jobs that may be required. There are plenty of colour photographs and line drawings to illustrate points made in the text with regard to construction and repairs.
