5.0 out of 5 stars A catalog of interesting facts, and anomalies, 13 Mar 2003

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
This interesting book is an encyclopedia of interesting and curious things that the ancients knew, or at least might have known. There are entries (among many) on the Library of Alexandria, the rust-resistant Delhi pillar, Petra, Great Zimbabwe, and the Greek explorer Pytheos.

Did you know that aluminum beads were discovered in a third-century Chinese tomb, some 1700 years before its "discovery" in the West? Did you know that the ancient Egyptians might have had the secret of making a battery? You would have had you read this book!

This book is well written, and easy to understand. The articles are short and to the point, but lacking in individual bibliographies (a minor complaint). This is an interesting book, and you will enjoy spending a few hours with it.
