Product Description

Bruce Lee's last movie, Game of Death, was released shortly after the megastar's tragic death. From its first screening, controversy surrounded the film, with millions of fans worldwide believing it misrepresented Lee's vision and undermined his legitimacy as a martial artist and philosopher. Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey offers readers a unique insider's account of the remaking of this incomparable film--a film in which Lee intended to showcase not only his mastery as a martial artist and actor but also his personal philosophy.

After searching nearly thirty years, Bruce Lee expert and award-winning filmmaker John Little found Lee's original scripting notes, directorial instructions, and more than ninety-five minutes of unreleased footage from this film. In the late 1990s, working closely with Lee's widow and referring to Lee's own copious notes, Little painstakingly reconstructed the movie according to Lee's vision. Here, readers get the inside story, firsthand from the man who made the discovery, remade the movie, and, in doing so, honored the best-loved and most highly respected martial artist in living history.

The perfect complement to Warner Home Video's movie of the same name, Bruce Lee: A Warrior's Journey offers fans a rare behind-the-scenes account of remaking the film as well as the most comprehensive presentation of Lee's philosophy available to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars at last a final game of death, or is it?, 19 Jun 2002
what can i say about this book? well to someone new to the bruce lee phenomenom, this book just about has it all for you to get to know this martial art legend!! it has an in-depth biography, a very good section on bruces philosophies in martial arts and life. a must read on page 243 where his long time friend taky kimura explains what type of man bruce was. what does this book have for die-hard bruce fans? well, probably more questions!! setting aside the warriors journey side of the book, we`ve read it all before, but its still refreshing to read. and now the big one, warriors journey, bruces final game of death. all i can say is, why didnt they do this in 1978? instead we had an embarrassing film that makes me cry with anger just thinking about it. we now finally get to see bruces version of what game of death should of been like. if you havent seen the video of a warriors journey, i suggest you watch the 1978 version of game of death first, then you may feel some of the pain we die-hard bruce fans have been going through for the last 23 years. this book accompanies the video very well, seeing bruces script notes and his drawings and his ideas really make you feel that if this movie had been completed it would have been awesome. just silly little things like the way he portrays the guardians of each level, in there styles of martial arts, and how he would of used his concept of fighting, "jeet kune do" to combat them, to wear the yellow tracksuit to show he is bound by no styles, and is free like the wind. the way he uses camera angles is excellent, considering he was still improving his movie making skills. die-hard fans will get some answers solved but not all, there will still be some who will say there is still more footage available, like the outdoor scenes, and the log scene,at the airport. someday maybe they will see the light of day but until then, enjoy this book as it is the perfect companion to the documentary.

5.0 out of 5 stars Enlightening!, 1 Dec 2003
By A Customer
This book ranks among the top Bruce Lee titles anywhere. It's informative, as well as easy and absorbing to read. John Little's research has definitely paid off, and for me, being a lifelong Bruce Lee fan who's read most books on the great man, it is a goldmine of information. It's also excellent reading for anyone who isn't a Bruce Lee fan but has a general interest. Highly recommended!
