Yeats, want to "arise and go now, and go to Innisfree," or any of the other literary sites described from the Bronte moors to the country lanes of Thomas Hardy's "Wessex." Walk the farm roads and visit the miners' row houses in D. H. Lawrence's "Midlands." Experience the streets of Bath with Jane Austen or one of her characters, or visit a Dublin pub with James Joyce's Leopold Bloom. Journey up the River Isis from Oxford to Godstow as Lewis Carroll did when he told Alice and her sisters the story of Alice in Wonderland. Walk the same Lake District footpaths that Dorothy and William Wordsworth did; travel to Wales and let Dylan Thomas show you how to be "young and easy under the apple boughs." The book contains short biographies of the authors and bibliographies of their works. For the country walks, estimated length of the walks and their level of difficulty are provided, as well as detailed maps. I taught English and Irish literature at Pasadena City College and directed PCC's semester-abroad program in Oxford. I have taken all the walks described in this book. My literary travel articles have appeared in the Los Angeles Times and the San Diego Union Tribune.
