Product Description

Product Description

Drawing on the traditional English garden, this guide features clean, functional designs which are stylish enough for indoor use but able to withstand decades outdoors with minimal maintenance. These 30 projects involve varying levels of woodworking skill and tool inventory. They include plans for chairs, tables, benches, screens, gates, trellises, garden shelves, a work table, a hammock stand and a garden cart. Each is photographed in colour and surrounded by flowering gardens and natural landscapes. Lists of tools and materials, step-by-step diagrams, exploded views, detailed directions and hints accompany every project.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value for money, 6 Feb 2003
By Bargain Hunter (Tyne and Wear United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
Being an absolute beginner, I apprehensively ordered this book. Although written for the American market I was delighted with the presentation of each project. It gives very clear instructions on tools required, the materials and hardware. The making and construction instructions are well written, easily understood and accompanied by clear detailed plans. It also has beautiful photographs of the completed project. Certainly a book for the "power tool" user. It cannot be beaten on value. Over 30 useful projects - you can pay more than this for the plans for one of the projects. I am delighted with my purchase and I only hope that the other books I order live up to the same high standard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, what you see in the illustration is what you get!, 1 Jul 2001
By victor@lilygreen.freeserve.co.uk (Swansea, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
These authors take the mystique out of garden furniture making, I have made several sets of the Adirondak chairs (both straight and curved back) and I keep getting asked to make more by family and friends. Even starting from rough sawn timber, the cutting list gives such short sections that machining is very quick, and with finished timber its childs-play. Having made the recliner from Oak/Chestnut, and the chairs/table sets from air-dried Oak, I could probably quite easily take early retirement now, and make a reasonable living from the manufacture of articles from this excellent book,(and not work as many hours as I do now). I look forward to their next publication.

5.0 out of 5 stars stylish, practical, easy to build outdoor furniture, 7 Mar 2001
my wife bought this book for me knowing i'm always trying to emulate "Norm".the problem with most woodwork project books is that the text, drawings, photography are not always clear.no such problem with this book.timbers to use, adhesives to use, finishes etc.best of all each project tells you in the text how much wood to buy, what size and what to mill it to,without having to mess about with creating a cut list.the projects are not too complex, and can be built with hand or power tools.what i like most about the book are the projects themselves, these have been well thought out,as i cannot think of one of the projects that doesn't look out of place or looks unsightly.tables with complimentary benches, the sun lounger, porch swing, planter boxes, the traditional english garden bench to name a few.last year i made countless adirondack chairs, everyone seems to want one.this book has plans for two plus a matching foot rest.if you are interested in giving your garden a facelift with furniture that doesn't look out of place this book is for you.definately worth a look.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hilariously shoddy furniture
This book was a slight disappointment to me. The projects repeat themselves (esp. with regard to patterns), and the results photographed are rather shoddy. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Hard to make garden furniture
Beautiful designs but easy to build? Only if you are Jesus equipped with a plunge router. This one is definitely for those with advanced woodworking skills. Read more
