4.0 out of 5 stars a great book if it's what you're looking for.., 4 April 2003
this book is very good if you are into the native american style of basketry. these baskets are very beautiful but they're not the same type as traditional english baskets. she does have one english-type (willow) basket in here, but it's very simple and doesn't really help much. all the other baskets are reed and of quite a different style and construction.

having said that it is a very good book, but only if you want details on a very specific style (try looking at the bigger picture of the cover to see the details).
hope this is helpful to you...
hannah

5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough and Easy to Learn From, 15 Feb 2006
By J. H. Sweet - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
Until I bought this book, I had never made a woven basket, only coiled ones. This book has made it easy for me to progress from one to the other. It has great technical drawings, easy to understand instructions, and beautiful photographs. The sections covering terminology, helpful hints, and resources have also been useful to me. This book also has a great variety of patterns, of which "Feather Basket" and "Potato Basket" are my favorites. I recommend The Basket Book for beginning basket makers.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very instructive book, great for the beginner, 16 Dec 1998
By A Customer
This book is very good for the beginning basket weaver. It also gives the intermediate weaver many challenges. The author starts off with general terms of the trade and defines them. It also provides the hands on instructions you need to weave each basket. A little more instruction and conversation on staining and dyeing would have made it even better.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent guidebook: I have used it for several years.
Great photos usually show more than one variation of each basket. A "story" behind each basket provides a sense of usefulness and history. Read more
