4.0 out of 5 stars A Scholarly Perspective, 2 April 2003
Being a 'student of film', I consider Lynch's work an artistically bizzare form to explore. To aid my plight I used The Twayne Film-makers series:David Lynch. It is fantastic from a theoretical point of view but strays away from being a biography. It is reliable as an overview of Lynch's intentions as a director. The bulk of the book attempts to discuss the various aspects of Lynch's vision. Film theory is applied to all his films, ranging from the early works of 'Elephant Man' and 'Dune' to the last featured in this text, 'Twin Peaks, Fire Walk with Me'. Unfortunately it does not incorporate his most recent films. However, the insights into the uses and interpretations of certain camera shots, and revelations into his deconstruction of the Hollywood Classical cinema style is great reading for the Lynchian disciple.Buy this if you study film or the media, and need a change from analysing boring old black and white movies because Lynch's films are truly in full surround sound colour!
