1.0 out of 5 stars I am confused, 18 Jul 2007
By R. Kergozou "Jac Raven" (Somerset, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I am confused because I thought this diet was about eating more naturaaly with perhaps a bias towards proteins. The recipes include low fat cheese and milk and sugar. On page 127 step 2 of the Origin diet says 'carbohydrates are the mainstay of the diet...' step 3 '...Choose only fat-free mik products...'
In terms of health issues there are problems associated with low fat food (which are processed foods!) as well as the view that only babies and animals should consume cows milk.
There doesn't seem to be a distinction made in the book between olive oil and the more healthy extra virgin cold pressed olive oil.
Fruit seem to have an equal standing as vegetables whereas elsewhere in other books the problem of natural sugars in fruit diminishes its presence in stone age diets.
There is a recipe including enchilada sauce, salsa and sour cream and others include maple syrup.
This book comes across as a healthy living book on the bandwagon of the Stone Age diet fade. I am still waiting for Neanderthin and Paleo Diet to be delivered and hoping they are better than this one. I will review my opinion of the Origin Diet after I have read the other books but for the moment it is being consigned to the bookshelve of dissapointing books.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not a stone age diet, 23 Mar 2008
By anna (Ole Blighty) - See all my reviews
Having seen Somer's diet pushed on TV I can categorically state that her high dairy, low fat, semi-vegetarian diet is not a paleolithic diet.

Try Ray Audette or Cordain's books instead.
