5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent kanji learning resource, 27 Jan 2002
By B. Caesar "caesartg" (Leeds, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
If you are studying Japanese, this is a pretty essential purchase. Chances are that you'll be producing your own flash-cards, but why bother when they're all done here for you and with plenty of info like stroke order, examples of compounds and radicals with meanings?

No doubt about it - these cards have enriched my learning experience. They're nicely presented, printed on good quality lasting card and they're suprisingly cheap (I'm used to being charged extortionate prices for study materials... these are cheaper than a round of drinks down my local!)

4.0 out of 5 stars A useful study tool for anyone learning Japanese, 9 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Each of the Tuttle Kanji card teaches one character and includes four common compounds along with their romaji equivalent and meaning in English on the back. The strokes are demonstrated bit by bit so that you can learn the correct way to write them yourself.

The cards are intended to be used along with kanji workbooks from the same publishers and cross-references are given on each card to facilitate this. I do not have these other books and therefore cannot comment on the usefulness of this cross-reference, although the use of exercises and reading comprehensions from other books would certainly help to consolidate what you learn with the cards.

It is said that learning Kanji will help to improve your spoken Japanese and overall understanding of the language. I think that these cards are an important tool for anyone learning this fascinating language.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vital, 3 Nov 2005
This review is from: Kanji Cards: v.ume 1 (Cards)
This set of flash cards is vital for any begginning student of japanese. Once the basic grammar is learnt, the problem of learning hundreds of Kanji rears its head. Fortunately, with a bit of work its not too hard, especiall with this set, and volume 2 too. After working though both volumes your kanji should be good enough to just pick up new ones as they come along. Premade cards make it easy to read to the bus, in breaks between lectures, before bed, whenever you have a spare moment, since constand practice is vital for kanji. Each Kanji card also comes with 4 words containing that kanji. This is absolutely essential. Without the words you would never remember the kanji readings, and it also reapidly expands your vocabulary.

A word of caution however, as these cards do not teach you how to learn Kanji. They do not teach what the compontents of the Kanji are, and so another book in addition to this is absolutely essential.
