5.0 out of 5 stars Cuchulain. Man or myth? After reading this you'll believe!!, 25 Feb 2002
By A Customer
I read this book under another title 'On Raven's Wing' and I couldn't put it down. Yet again Llywellyn has dusted off an ancient period of Ireland's past and presented it to us in a flawless account of one of our best loved heroes.

The reader cannot help but like the cocky little Setanta as he decides to take his future by the scruff of the neck and make his way to become a member of the legendary Red Branch.

I sat up late into the night on many occasions just to stay by Cuchulain's side while he faced danger and adventure. I found it nearly impossible to close over the pages and turn out the light each night as I was gripped by the pure excitement of what is Llywellyn's account of The Hound's life.

Cuchulain is portrayed in this book as he should be, a brave and proud warrior of ancient Ireland, an Ireland that might not be known to many if it wasn't for the likes of Morgan Llywellyn.

I have read many other of Morgan Llywellyn's books on Irish history and legend and 'On Raven's Wing' or 'Red Branch' comes second only to one other, 'Lion of Ireland' the story of Brian Boru.

Do yourself a favour and read them both. Then do your friends a favour and introduce them to the magnificent world of Morgan Llywellyn, the world that was Erin.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fantastic read, 10 Nov 2003
This was the first of her books I read and I could not put it down. I am now totally hooked and am reading my way through all her books. Once I start reading one I have to carry it everywhere and read it continuously, she is a fantastic story teller and gives real life to the legends and history of Ireland. Anyone interested in their celtic past should read her books.

Red Branch remains my favourite.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've read it 3 times - and it never ceases to captivate me!, 29 Jan 1999
By A Customer
This book amazes me. I have read some of Morgan Llywelyn's other books, such as Bard, Lion of Ireland, and Pride of Lions; Red Branch is by far my favorite. The characters came completely to life....you feel as if you are living in ancient Ireland, as if you're right there watching. You see Cuchullain grow, from being a child to his honorable and unforgettable death. You see the character's weaknesses and strengths. I felt as if I lived the tale...and want to live it again.

3.0 out of 5 stars A competent account
A fairly hefty reworking of the Cuchulain legends, decently told, with due respect given to the facts of geography and the findings of archæology.
