4.0 out of 5 stars Revoltingly eductional!, 19 Nov 2007

(REAL NAME)
What a bizarre book. The title, for all its incomprehensibility, really does the book justice.

The tone of the book is set by the front cover which has a realistic looking and feeling stretchy tongue. Each of the subsequent double pages (note that there are only 5 double spreads/10 pages in the book) has a wealth of visual and interactive detail. There are numerous flaps to lift, books within books, pop-ups, things to pull or twist. The pages are bright and the illustrations cheery and great for children.

The content is clever. It presents accurate facts about the mouth (types and locations of tastebuds), oesophagus, stomach and intestines. The biology and function of each area is presented accessibly. The last double page has some predictable toilet humour which appeals to all children.

I would imagine that this book is targeted at around the 7-9 year old age bracket for independent reading. However, I'll be giving a copy to my 4 year-old for Christmas as he will adore the tongue and bits to lift. He may even learn some simple biology as I read and/or paraphrase some sections for him.
