Review

"The Allied campaign in Norway has had its detractors, but none with the satiric style of Kersaudy."

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the forgotten wars, 14 Oct 2003
By Budge Burgess (Kilmarnock, Scotland) - See all my reviews
(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
This review is from: Norway, 1940 (Paperback)
My home town is Dumfries in Scotland, a small place, but site, during World War 2, of the Norwegian HQ, and burial place for many who died in the fight against Hitler. The courage of the Norwegians is legendary: the tragedy of Norway is that it was allowed to fall into Nazi hands. Kersaudy's account is partisan. He sees Allied support for Norway as chaotic, ill-organised, and half-hearted. While the men on the spot fought bravely, the politicians failed to act quickly enough or with enough force or commitment. Norway's role in the war should not be neglected, underestimated, or forgotten, so maybe a partisan book is essential reading for anyone wishing to understand the events of 1940.
