This publication contains selected papers presented at a mapping and GIS symposium in 1990, which, though apparently outdated, has some historical significance, and gives some developmental perspective for newcomers and old timers to GIS. The methods and procedures of yore allow us to see how far GIS has developed till now. Filled with technical jargon, it also compels the newcomer to learn GIS vocabulary. The publication could be worthy of a place in a GIS museum one day. It is still worth reading today, though. I give it a neutral rating of 3 stars for the context in which I review this book. Value-for-money, it is best bought 2nd-hand.
