5.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary murder fiction - love it!, 13 Dec 2009
I do like Ms Harris's work. Aurora Teagarden is the last of her existing series that I've picked up. I adored Sookie, felt strangely and sadly akin to both Lily Bard and Harper Connolly and generally appreciate the easy to read no nonsense prose.
Aurora is a librarian in her late 20s, leading a sedate life in a small American town, and is a member of a club that regularly meet to discuss real life killings. Fiction soon becomes fact as more and more bodies are discovered, and the similarities between prior murders and those of Aurora's townfolk are frighteningly common.
Don't get me wrong, when I say no nonsense prose, this isn't a dumbed down novel. In fact, the plot is great. I'm a serial killer geek too, so worked my way through the list of suspects and MOs. The book ended far too soon, and the second in the series was even better.

4.0 out of 5 stars worth a look, 19 Oct 2009

I enjoyed this book a lot, It was a nice easy read (which i like ) not trying to be too clever or too over the top. real murders is another good charlanie harris book and has her easy and witty charm all over it. I'm not adding any details about the story because i think that can spoil the book. Worth a look.

2.0 out of 5 stars not so cosy crime story, 2 Feb 2010
By RM Murray "Ru Reads" (England) - See all my reviews

Although i enjoyed reading this book. i found the heroine profoundly disturbing because of the violence that had been done to her in her back story. the back of the book describes Lily Bard as having a violent past but somehow i imagined this would have been violence she had committed rather than violence committed against her. the whodunnit almost took second place to the slow recovery of the emotionally damaged heroine.

i believe a more accurate blurb would have prepared me so that i could take in the story a little more. instead i was shocked and taken aback by the heroine's traumatic past and couldn't really focus on the mystery

i reserve judgement on Lily Bard until i've read the other books, but she is certainly a long way from the homely figure of Aurora Teagarden
