The big picture on motorbikes, 10 Feb 2000
By A Customer
As a recent convert myself, this book is the ideal way to demystify motorcycles, putting you in charge of your machine.Nothing is assumed about the readers knowledge and all sections are well explained and illustrated. As well as providing all the prerequisite knowledge required to begin tackling motorbikes, it is laced with all sorts of invaluable wisdom and experience which help prevent you from having to learn from painful or expensive mistakes. The workings of a motorbike are well examined and the troubleshooting section greatly helps in understanding what your bike is actually up to. A section, with descriptions and photographs of all tools you are ever likely to need, is a lesson to other technical writers. It's not just motorcycle maintenance though. There is useful information on buying bikes, gear and accessories along with such help as what to take on a camping trip. This book covers the breadth motorcycling and does an excellent job. In-depth information will have to be sought by the reader wishing to become an veteran motorcycle mechanic. Nice to have in a future edition would be some advice on what to look for when buying second hand bikes and pointers to other sources of information which go beyond the scope of this Handbook. What's surprised me most since buying this is how many people want to borrow it when I'm finished (of course they were told to buy a copy for themselves). The authors have seem to have uncovered the secret desire of many who are afraid to ask.
