3.0 out of 5 stars May be targetted towards an advanced mechanic, 20 Jul 2002
By U. Senathirajah "Udhi" (NW UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book covers several different models at once. The data refer to certain tasks in general leaving the reader to extrapolate methods described for one model to suit his/her own version (try that from a CRX to a Del Sol matey!).

I doubt this is going to work well for someone who knows only the basics of servicing/brake/tuning. But the book is one of only two choices in this market.

I would recomend that a reader buys BOTH the Haynes Del Sol SOHC manual and the Chiltons and use both books to plug holes in each other (Haynes has got substantially more lucid photographs and step-by steps, Chiltons has got more "engineering data".)

2.0 out of 5 stars For a UK reader, nothing more than a general overview., 10 April 2000
By A Customer
As there are no UK published guides to my car (a 1989 Honda Civic DX), I decided to go for this US manual rather than spend £80 on a Honda workshop guide. I've found it useful for getting a general background to the engineering of the car, but I have found shortcomings in every department, many of which I'm sure would apply to users in the US. Firstly, by covering three generations of civic in the same paragraphs, it invariably falls short. One example is when I needed to replace a chipped headlamp. No section in the book directly mentioned the headlamp units, only replacing the bulb. My own examination revealed I had to loosen the bumper somehow, but the book had incomplete details for my model year, and expected a diagram of an '84 CRX to be an accurate guide. Another drawback from my point of view is that the 1350 cc and 1400 cc engines used in UK 88-91 civics are not mentioned. Given that, I haven't used the manual for any major mechanical work, but a quick flick through suggests that Chilton's efforts to kill three birds with one stone would leave a little too much guesswork in the equation. I've been much more impressed with the style and content of the Haynes manuals which you can get for other cars here in blighty.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good help for Civics in general, but not for 92-95 ones., 12 Nov 1997
By A Customer
I was looking for help for my 94 Civic.

Good:
- Clear diagrams/illustrations.
- Clear index.

Bad:
Compared with the diagrams shown for other years of Civic, I'd say there are fewer diagrams and illustrations for the 92-95 one. For example, the book shows a diagram on removing the fan/heating switch from the front panel of a model before 92, but no diagram for the 92-95 one. Also some terms used in the illustrations are not explained clearly, so I was not sure which part(s) they're referring to.

I'd rate this book better if it included a better help for the 92-95 model.
