almost [but not quite] completely useless, 30 Aug 2003
having recently bought a secondhand isuzu trooper, i bought this manual for all that handy routine maintenance information; recommended lubricants and capacities, filter sizes, naming of parts... etc. and quite frankly it's proved to be completely useless.for a start the book is american, so a lot of the terminology is confusing. measurements and capacities [where given] tend to be expressed, seemingly randomly in a variety of units such as quarts, pints or gallons [all of the US variety] and sometimes even in metric units, with no conversion information. quite often the unit isn't even given, so that [for example] the chart in the section on changing engine oil lists '4.5' '5.5' ...etc. as the capacities for the various available engines, without giving any indication as to the units used at all. no info is given at all as to part no.s or sizes for replacement oil or fuel filters. the book tries to cover far too much [it claims to cover all US and canadian models of amigo, impulse i-mark pickups, rodeo, stylus and trooper from 1981-91] and ends up failing miserably to provide much in the way of useful information on any. it reads like a generic routine maintenance manual, which has had the odd bit of model specific information shoe-horned in. there will be pages and pages giving you elementary information along the lines of "don't smoke near petrol [or gasoline]..", "don't jack the vehicle up on a steep hill..", "don't prop the vehicle up with cinder blocks while working under it...", "don't let your hair hang in the engine while it's running..." etc and then something complex like removing the turbo or fuel pump will be dealt with along the lines of... "the fuel pump is located near the battery. remove it and check for wear and tear.." this manual is about the size of a large paperback and many of the diagrams [when given] appear to have been reprinted from a larger original format, so that the text is, in some cases, literally too small to read. all in all, i'd highly 'un-recommend' this book if you have any other source of information available for your isuzu. unfortunately in my case i didn't and, with haynes not doing a manual for the isuzu trooper, this was the only game in town.
