Norstog's and Nicholl's book is a very good reference book with a a lot of facts and statistics. Some of the information given on the relationships of gymnosperms and angiosperms is perhaps a little dated but the book is about cycads rather than plant evolution.

Subjects such as cycad reproduction dynamics, physiology, global distribution and evolution are covered. A short description of each of the known species is also given, though this book is not meant to be used for identification of cycads. Photos thoughout the book are black and white and there is a large section of colour photos in the middle of the book. Both cycads in situ and slices under high magnification are illustrated.

This is not a book for the casual reader and does require some knowledge of botany). It is probably most at home in a University library or in the bookshelf of a true cycad fanatic.
