4.0 out of 5 stars A factual & humble account of paleoanthropology as a science, 3 Sep 2001
By Astrid Gillespie (Brentwood, Essex United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Bones of Contention (Paperback)
I thouroughly enjoyed reading this book during my holiday of the last 2 weeks. Lubenow starts by humbly admitting that as a true "science" (the development of theories and laws that explain the world around us by observed data) paleoanthropology ranks low. I say "humbly" as this has been his major field of study. Even although evolution can stand as a theory, when considering the humanoid fossil record there is no observed data that proves evolution. This is a far cry from what is presented for public consumtion.

As a christian I struggled with the conflict between the biblical account of creation and the increasingly number of documentaries showing detailed reconstructions of ape-man ancestors. If God has created the world then I would expect that any (scientific) examination would point to this. This book shows just how far the evidence has been distorted and how far the theory of evolution has been "firmed" on no scientific basis.

It is difficult to separate science and religion on this subject as beliefs on human origins dictate your philosophy and outlook on life - even the scientist doing the investigation.

So:

-As a scientist I found this book open about the facts and humble about the conclusions that can be ligitimately drawn from the hominoid fossil evidence.

-As a christian I found the book very exciting as it answered some of the questions evolution was posing to my faith. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars An important work in the developing creation model., 20 April 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Bones of Contention (Paperback)
Dr. Lubenow's work laid the foundation for an understanding of hominid fossils in the creation model. Although much work has been done to advance the model since this work was published it is still an important beginning point.

Despite attempts by annoyed or frantic evolutionists to pooh-pooh this work it is filled with valuable information. I would urge evolutionists to try with a straight face to study evolutionary literature and show how it accords with the evidence Lubenow points out. Evolutionary theory can best be described as fighting the evidence, not flowing with it. If this is not the case, why do evolutionists avoid "big picture" analyses like the one Lubenow has performed that survey ALL the accepted evidence and chart it together? Why are they so selective even within their own camps and factions?

5.0 out of 5 stars Just the FACTS ma'am, 5 Nov 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Bones of Contention (Paperback)
Wow! Anyone who thinks scientists are only interested in the facts without bias should read this book. Lubenow challeges evolutionist to put all the known 'hominid' fossils with their taxons and 'age' (data from evolutionists themselves) into a chart. The result is 'Fossil Failure on a Grand Scale'. Appartently evolutionist have not produced such a chart because of all the conflicting data. The physical evidence speaks louder than words.
