Carl Weathers smashes up the screen in this classic late 80's actioner. As Jericho Jackson he's up against a rich and powerful industrialist (Craig T Nelson) who doesn't mind murdering people to gain control of the unions. Carl Weathers is sadly underused in the cinema and it's a shame because besides being a credible action hero he adds bags of charm and charisma to this role. The script is fast paced and has loads of one liners. The fight choreography and musical score are very reminiscent of lethal weapon and roadhouse; the punches sound like mini explosions! Sharon Stone has a cameo role but Vanity is the love interest; she does very well despite being reportedly strung out on coke at the time. This was produced by Joel Silver (commando, lethal weapon, die hard) and it's a masterclass in the genre from start to finish.

This film is a great action piece, never actually released in this country on dvd but only available on the VHS format some twenty or so years ago I found it an exciting action movie, full of great stunt work from stunt co-ordinator Craig R.Baxley who is now a successful film director.
Anybody who likes action such as I do will not be disappointed in Action Jackson it certainly lives up to its name. Highly recommended.

'Peter Dellaplane' a tycoon uses thugs to do his dirty-work to aid his rise
up the political ladder.
Encounters between 'Sergeant Jericho Jackson' two years ago led to
'Jackson' being demoted from his position as 'Lieutenant' in the Detroit
police department..
'Jackson' has involvement with 'Dellaplane's' wife 'Patrice' which the tycoon
see's as a threat to his plans.
'Patrice' is murdered, 'Dellaplane' engineers the situation to make it look as
though 'Jackson' is responsible for the killing, this puts the two on a collision
course.
The Sergeant will have the 'Tycoon's' thugs to deal with first in the effort to
clear his name, singer 'Sydney' ('Dellaplane's Mistress) tags along with 'Jackson'
for the ride.
This is an action-packed and explosive roller-coaster ride that'll no doubt give
you a smile or two along the way.
Should satisfy most action-movie buffs..........Enjoyable viewing.
'Carl Weather's' (Jackson) also had a role in the film 'Predator' and also played
'Apollo Creed' in 'Rocky'
The Blu-ray up-grade......acceptable.
The Film on Blu-ray (Import) is multi-region.

Jericho "Action" Jackson is a Detroit police sergeant who was demoted for almost tearing the arm off Sean Dellaplane, whose father is Peter Dellaplane, a major car manufacturer.

But he himself is violent as well. Dellaplane kills his wife Patrice and then plants her body in Jackson's apartment, framing him.

Jackson suspects Dellaplane of masterminding a murder spree against local officials from the auto workers' union. His aim is to gain a political power base and choose the next president of the United States.

Because of what happened to his son, Dellaplane has taken a particular dislike to Jackson.

It could probably be the biggest guilty pleasure of the late eighties, and thanks to the success of Weathers in Predator, and Joel Silver seeing a leading man in him, he gets a franchise starter, that never really evolved.

It's a shame though, because even if this film is very silly, it's a lot of fun and it never lets up from the moment we first hear the titular character talk.

There is no real plot, no real story, and normal narrative to speak of, it's just an excuse for set piece after set piece, with Jackson spouting ridiculous one liners, and Nelson every now and again trying to be the best Silver villain (that still belongs to Rickman).

It's the eighties equivalent of Blaxploitation, the women are daft, the support are either dumb, in Jacksons way, or Jacksons help, mothers is no high or low ground.

It's great stuff, if you are a fan of late eighties action, this is a must.

And the best bit? When Jackson kills a bad guy with a flame thrower and tells him to Chill Out. A load of old cobblers, but you will have a lot of fun..

This is a really enjoyable movie.

Carl Weathers is perfect as a the quite but tough cop. Vanity shines as the gansters playful mistress. Together they are a recipe for laughs.

The plot isn't novel. What makes the film is great characters, and quality comic writing. Violence, drugs and sexuality are all covered in a light-hearted manner. There isn't anthing which would offend most adults.

Sharon Stone has a minor role as the target criminal's wife. She plays a cold character and there isn't much to be said about it.

I would recommend this film to fans of Schwarzenneger comedies and Jackie Chan Films. It has a more adult theme but there is a similar approach to humour.

When a movie features this much testosterone and enough manliness to level a tower block, you just know any action loving DIY dodger is gonna find themselves in trash movie heaven. Thankfully, this Jackson delivers the Action like no other - so buckle up, sit back and let the good times roll...

Detective Lt. Jericho "Action" Jackson (an awesome Carl Weathers, fresh from his stint in the other equally awesome 'Predator') is justifiably a little peeved following his demotion after a fracas with the son of Detroit industrialist Peter Dellaplane (a suitably oily Craig T. Nelson sporting an amusing slick back hair-doo) and then framing him for the murder of his wife (a pre-leg crossing Sharon Stone) - even though it was Dellapane himself who did the murderizing. Now, Jericho has to prove his innocence and between bouts of head bashing, grenade launching and automobile vaulting - he teams up with sultry drug addict Sydney Ash (Vanity) to bring an end to Dellaplane's smug grin and stupid hair.

The film is an action fan's wet dream from the get go. Its suitably stupid yet clips along at a fair old pace not allowing you to get bored or wonder how silly any of this is: Lead Carl Weathers is excellent as Jericho and you really want to follow his character throughout. Great too are the usual array of 1980s action bit part actors (Robert Davi, Bill Duke, Ed O'Ross, Dennis Hayden) who really give the movie some character and flavour. Director Craig R. Baxley (who previously performed stunt duty on The A-Team and would go on to direct the gonzo awesome action hit 'Stone Cold') directs the movie with energy and an almost clinical dedication for destruction, you find yourself jaws agape at some of the marvellous stunt work on display.
