As a relative newcomer to Digital Images and Graphics I found the CIG the perfect answer for getting up and running in no time at all. I liked the layout with the book broken down into chapters that lead the reader systematically from the basics through to the more complex aspects of the programme. This layout makes it very easy to refer to specific topics or tasks as and when required. Used interactively each chapter makes an ideal lesson. Some of the topics are a little difficult eg masks, alpha channels and adjustment layers but I put this down to my inexperience rather than the book. Each chapter provides clear and concise instructions and guidance with many features and useful tips highlighted by the use of separate framed sections. The "Cheat Sheet" at the front of the book is extremely useful for learning keyboard shortcuts particularly for the Tool Palette. One small criticism - as a novice I would have appreciated a chapter or at least a few pages on the relationship between file size and resolution, very important I feel in getting the image out. PSP 7 is a dynamic software programme and it is impossible for one book to cover all aspects of the programme ( eg Animation Shop - the very basics are covered) but the CIG does go a long way in providing you with all you need to know and at the same time make the learning process enjoyable. To sum up CIG is an excellent book that takes the reader to the base of the mountain that is PSP7 and fully equips them for the climb.

If you are new to PSP7 then this will definitely make some sense of that weighty Users Manual. It is not so basic as to bore even intermediate users of PSP either - there is stuff to keep a wide range of skills interested here.

I would go so far as to say that this is better than T. Michael Clark's Teach Yourself Paint Shop Pro 7 in 24 Hours. By a long way too.

This book tells how PSP7 works but disappointingly does not give enough information about actually achieving some of the 'cool' graphics on the web today, which is what I was looking for.
