1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor, 15 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This book includes a full version of XML Pro and the whole book is based on using this tool to create edit and validate the work undertaken with the book.

However in the publisher and Authors view a full version is a 30-day demo version. Thus after 30 days, when the software expires, the book becomes useless as none of the examples can be worked through.

Unless you can work through the book in thirty days it is a complete waste of time.

p.s. badly written and error strewn as well.

2.0 out of 5 stars What No Proof Read?, 14 Dec 2000
By A Customer
Initially The Idiots Guide provides an easy to follow (albeit repetitive) introduction to the concepts of XML. Problems arise when attempting to follow the examples using the free XML/Pro editor. Using XML/Pro in the manner suggested in the book does not give you the expected results. The author obviously has not attepted to follow his book. Another annoying point is the sheer number of grammatical and spelling mistakes (almost one every couple of pages).

2.0 out of 5 stars Little information in a lot of pages, 6 Oct 2000
I felt that this book could have been one third of this size to deliver the content. The first two thirds of the book are hardly worth reading. The book describes the XML meta-language only and how it can be used for describing your own markup language. There are no practical examples of how this can be incorporated into your application development. The interactive lessons on the Microsoft web site gives more detail.
