Amazon.co.uk Review

Are you a power user? Special Edition: Using Microsoft Office 2000 has what you're looking for: it will let you open up the hood and get your hands dirty tuning Office to run your way.

In addition to comprehensive reference material covering all of the Office programs--even Visual Basic for Applications--you'll find a host of secrets, hidden features and "hacks" you'll see nowhere else. Be warned: some of these tricks are for experienced users only. (One false move in the Windows Registry and you might find yourself looking at a reinstallation!) Don't be intimidated, though--even the most nervous will find Special Edition a goldmine of information and resources.

Great indexing lets you find what you need quickly, from absolute cell references to zooming, and the clear text and graphics will help you solve any problem--even ones you didn't know you had. The book comes with a CD-ROM containing Woody's Office Power Pack (a great set of Office utilities), the complete searchable text of the book and additional material covering Word, Excel, PowerPoint and a bundle of cool third-party software. If you've mastered the basics and want to improve your Office knowledge, let the professionals show you the way with Special Edition: Using Microsoft Office 2000. --Rob Lightner

2.0 out of 5 stars Only buy this book if you really know what your doing., 5 Mar 2000
By toptrader@fsmail.net (caterham, surrey, England) - See all my reviews
Very comprehensive, but a warning. Only buy this book if you know a good deal about computers. On no account should a novice buy it. It starts from a level of knowledge that, usually, only techies have. If you are a small businessman looking for a guide to help run your business (as I was), buy something simpler. The IDG '3D Visual' Office 2000 Simplified is a good starting point.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you get Office 2000, you must have this book!, 26 Aug 1999
By A Customer
It is impossible to grasp the potential of Office 2000 without a guide, and you can't do better than this book. It lets you easily unlock all of the toys, tools and tricks of Office 2000. It's clearly laid-out, well-written, with amazing detail and no-bs information. The tips alone are worth 3 times the price of the book.

I purchased Ed Bott's last book and use it constantly. (And I am familiar with both Mr. Bott and Woody Leonhard as resident gurus at PC Computing magazine.) I shopped around with Office 2000, and came back to them again.

This book IS the best one out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars In a word...great, 26 Jun 1999
By A Customer
A great book for tricks of the trade and overview. For step-by-step how to, other reads may be better. But for anyone who has at least some familiarity, this is the only book needed about Office 2000 and its Premium package. It is clear that the authors not only use Office's ingredients, but seek common denominators and cross-program insights. The included CD provides incredibly useful, and interesting, custom utilities...free. Its benefits/weaknesses analyses are top notch. It would be great if there were similar books in other topic areas (eg, the Adobe array of programs and objective non-cult usable analysis of the benefits/weaknesses of the various OS platforms...hint,hint) with the well-honed perspective of this Office 2000 treatise.
