4.0 out of 5 stars This book is an excellent 'get you started' reference., 8 Feb 2002
By A Customer
Although his book is written in such a manner that the almost complete novice can understand it, it is also a very handy reference for those with prior programming knowledge. The chapters are well organised, taking the reader from the very beginnings through to some more complicated aspects of the VB language.

However, where this book really comes into it's own is with the inclusion of VB 6.0 Working Model Edition. This allows the reader to actually try the examples given in the text for themselves. Personally I found that this had the inevitable effect of allowing my curiosity to take over and experimentation with the concepts newly introduced gave for a deeper understanding.

All in all, I have been thoroughly pleased with this book and CD, and consider it to be great value for money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for a total beginner, 2 Aug 2001
By A Customer
I bought this book and found it great. It even comes with a working copy of vb, the only catch is that you can't run the exe files without running visual basic.

The book it self is easy to use and very simple. I had some previous knowledge of programming in C and found it very simple but great and easy to understand for a beginner.

Great book, Great price

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for the newbie to programming, 28 Jun 1999
By A Customer
They say the road to programming is an arduos and taxing one. Well, like everything in life there are exceptions. This book is just one example of such a scenario.

For someone completely alien to programming it teaches you from the basics of Form design to the complexities of putting together little applications. Furthermore, the description of the language syntax is easily placed out and is very easy to grasp.

A few problems I came across were that the method of installation of the VB executeable attached at the back of the book, was curiously placed toward the end of the book.

Also the language syntax could do with a few more examples and the book could have had more images.

But all in all a book worth purchasing for the programming novice.
