3.0 out of 5 stars purely reference material, 4 Jul 1999
By A Customer
This book is not for the novice. Prior knowledge of the subject matter is assumed. Its function is that of a quick reference for the seasoned programmer. Good try though!!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'It does exactly what it says on the tin', 15 Jun 2000
By A Customer
This book delivered exactly what it promised. It's a highly reliable source of information for anyone who wishes to know something about all the core technologies in web-based implementations.

The content is more than sufficient to cover the basics and there are sufficient references and URLs to satisfy those seeking more information.

But for it's weight, I'd take it everywhere with me; I do the accompanying CD. 2 friends to whom I've suggested this book have purchased it and are equally pleased.

1.0 out of 5 stars 5 books in 1, and only 1 is useful, 16 Aug 1999
By A Customer
Unfortunately this book deals with HTML, XML, JavaScript, CGI and Java separately; there is no mention of programming XML-based applications in Java, for example.

This is really five separate books, three of which I don't need; two O'Reilly books would have been a much better buy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Written for someone who wants to learn quickly.
However, even though I originally purchased this book for the XML, I also read the JavaScript chapters and found it to be very informative and easy to read. Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars The Java part isn't bad for just a short overview
I only read the Java part (appr. 200 pages) of the book - so I only judge the book's discussing Java.

All the chapters have been written by the author of Que's Using Java 1. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars A "MUST HAVE" for any serious web designer!
With so much content in one book, I can see how readers could get confused. It would be impossible to get it all in just one sitting. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A complete reference GUIDE, but not a tutorial
It certainly is an excellent book for advanced and experienced users of HTML and Java. However it fails to deliver, and glosses over some topics and tells you how it is, not... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars A sea of information... a sea of very poor information.
This extremely overhyped tome covers a great deal of topics but does not scratch the surface very well in any one area. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential Reading
Apart from the glitches on the CD-ROM where certain images and chapters have been omitted, I unhesitatingly recommend this masterpiece. Read more
