4.0 out of 5 stars Pleased as Punch, 27 Dec 2004
Like all of the previous Salvatore books this one is a classic action adventure. It's like a roll-a-coaster ride while orcs swings swords at you. I like the introduction of some very cool characters from other series of Salvatores books and they blend in really well. What I like the most is the dwarves. You start to get the drift of what all the other books have said about the dwarves great sense of kinship.

The only thing that wasnt portrayed very well was Drizzits grief of losing everyone he loved. The love of his life is hardly mentioned in his reflections. But it doesnt ruin this book, it just stops it from being a 5* rating from me.

All in all I would recommend this book to not only drizzit or forgotten realms fans but to all who like the fantasy genre.

5.0 out of 5 stars It will Kill me, waiting on the third installment. !!, 7 Nov 2003
Drizzt Do'Urden, on his own, in full revenge mode believing that his companions are gone for good this time, especially Bruenor Battlehammer. The gears shift to high. We explore more of Drizzt's dark side. At the same time we have hard-pressed dwarves beseiged by Goblins, Orcs, Giants and Trolls. We find Regis being sensible and honourable. We have a God-Blessed Orc King, loss of hard won territory for the dwarves and way too many Orcs being shrewd. What can I say about the plot that gives you a clue that this is an excellent continuation of R.A. Salvatore's work. I sat down to read it, 7 hours and a few bathroom and snack breaks aside, I was done. I laughed, I cried, I grew angry, I commiserated, I cheered. If only all books were as compulsive a read, we would not have gaps in people's literacy and lack of imagination. Being the first ever review written by me, I am not being professional at all, but I do know that I am a immersive book-a-holic. Those who are following these titles from the Crystal Shard Triology onwards will definitely not be disappointed. Enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars I need more stars!!!, 25 Aug 2004
Once again, Mr Salvatore rox the box with the next installment of Drizzt's adventures.
I quite literally could Not Put This Book Down.
Wulfgar's settling in, Cattie-brie has (to some extent quite annoyingly) realised that she needs to take the next few steps in her relationship with the big-hearted drow, but where's Drizzt?
Off with some surface elf, thinking eveyrone else is dead.
* Roll of eyes.*
Drizzt's heart is near to breaking in this volume. His belief that his friends are all dead has him reverting to the mentality of 'The Hunter', the primitive alter-ego that he had to become in order to survive his trials in the underdark in order to exact whatever revenge he can.
I only hope he gets it together with Cattie-Brie and that other surface elf (I forgot her name) buggers off cos if she steps in before he gets back together with the beautiful human will have me HURTING SOMEONE!!!
