3.0 out of 5 stars A overall good book, but misses a few tidbits., 3 May 2004
By Rolf M (Faroe Islands) - See all my reviews
The Dragonlance world is a great world! I really liked the 2nd edition Campaign setting, and was expecting a real deal with this new book. Well, what I got wasn't excatly what I expected. This book has a lot of entries about Ansalon, but I miss information about characters (villians and heroes) and magical items. I also liked the old way of displaying the characters on one chapter, and all the magic items in another chapter. This book has them scattered all around in the book, but there is a really good indexing, so it isn't a problem to find the stuff you are looking for.
It seems that they keep the really good parts for a new book, forcing us, hardcore-fanatics to buy even more books. However, this book is still worthwhile, if you are playing 3e of dragonlance, but I would recommend you also buy the Age of Mortals book, which has a lot more information of the world.

1.0 out of 5 stars Utter disappointment, 15 Mar 2004
Well, I have been a devoted DL fan for 15 years and I have been looking forward to this book immensely. Just a few points, why you should not buy this book:
- horrendous graphic design, including pictures
- lack of material: come on people, how much time did you spend writing this book? Have you ever seen the Forgotten Realms campaign book? Where are the NPCs, items, descriptions, detailed history, political groups, countries, cities?
- lack of decent geographical description, maps: Is it such a big request to include a decent map? The 2nd edition map was 100 times better than the ones found in this book. Also, am I going to get a map of Palanthas ever?
- lack of heroism, heroic items, heroic casts, spells etc: do you actually believe that you can damage a "high" god with a puny dagger? What about spells like time heal?
etc.
And altogether everything. The greatest disappointment since the Dragons of Summer Flame and a huge step backwards from the 2nd edition sourcebook.

Its a pity.

Well, the only good thing about it, is that I got it as a gift, so I didn't have to pay for it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excelence!, 14 Oct 2003
No other word can better describe this book. It brings back the old Krynn mysticism under d20 rules. Apart from the art, that could be a lot better, this book has all the flavour of Krynn; the kenders, minotaurs, irdas, draconians, solamnia knights and brings some new classes to use. So if you're a newcomer in the world of dragonlance in need an excelent product or an old player that is using the d20 rules don't waste any time!!! Buy the book!!!
