4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent introduction to the new age of Dragonlance, 25 Jun 2001
This book is fantastic. As a huge fan of the classic Dragonlance books I was a bit wary at first of the new age of mortals. I've read a few Bridges of Time series that span the 30 years between the classics and the fifth age books. This book spans that time in a few detailed chapters that recount decades of history in a brief but detailed way. You can easily read this and skip over the bridges of time series or explore the events described in detail in them. Dawning of a new age introduces new characters alongside old favourites with plenty of references to the original heroes. In true Dragonlance style you quickly fall in love with new characters and rapidly learn to trust them and sympathise with their pains and losses. The story itself surrounds new heroes facing the new evil dragon overlords. The backgrounds to these overlords is equally detailed and gripping. The style of the book can be a little jumpy and in the earlier chapters its hard to know what time period you are in buit Jean Rabe is an excellent author and very descriptive. All in all I would reccomend this book to all Dragonlance fans and anyone that wants to pick up the story from the new age.

2.0 out of 5 stars dagnammit. I had high hopes., 4 Feb 2008

After the end of dragons of summer flame i had hopes for a new and exciting dragonlance with the world of Krynn turn on its head. Sadly we get a half baked novel by an author who has all the flair of a rabid goat. some of the ideas aree pretty good its the execution that fails, and badly at that. Fight scenes should not be described blow by blow unless it is interesting and/or exciting. lines like...
Talon parried the draconians blow with a flick of his wrist only to find his attack countered with equal skill. Again he thrust only to have the draconian launch a viscious counter that nearly btoke his defence. ...are okay if they aren't followed by two pages of more of the same. surely something like... Talon fought with animal like ferocity as his opponant blocked and countered desperately, denying talon the opening he needed to finish the fight. Then again it would have been a very short book without the over long fight scenes.
