5.0 out of 5 stars The rest of the story..., 10 Jul 2003
By dave "weirddave" (Cardiff, UK) - See all my reviews
The only true sequel to the 'Chronicles' set of books, here in gift-pack form. Legends works as well as the first story, but focuses its scope more intently on Raistlin, Caramon and Tas. In some ways this works, in others it frustrates, before finally we get a 'mini-reprise' of Chronicles in the final volume.

As to the story - Well, Caramon and Tika are running the inn, and Caramon's got fat and alcoholic because Raistlin's left to become the most powerful mage ever. Raistlin decides he wants to become a God, so travels back in time to get the means to do just that. Caramon becomes the reluctant hero trying to stop him.

Notable points are Tas being forced to grow up more than even in the Chronicles books; Caramon also being forced to grow up (something that was sadly absent from Chronicles, but this really does make up for that); and Dalamar, a great almost-dark character who really doesn't feature enough for such a good idea.

But generally speaking, the series reprises all of the good points of Chronicles, with only some minor flabby points during the time travel, which you really don't notice given the pace of events. Ties up a lot of the loose ends left after Chronicles, as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soul Growth, 3 Jul 2003
These books I have found to be superb, no better than superb, awe-inspiring. The titanic struggle between good and evil has been covered many a time, see Tolkien etc but for a deep focus on a relationship of love and hate between brothers torn apart by jealousy and misunderstanding which leaves the reader alternately weeping with sorrow and then with laughter, there is NO PEER. The Brilliant but twisted mage and the strong in body but not mind warrior brought together by the beautiful, faithful yet unfeeling cleric of Paladine, all travel back through time where Raistlin will challenge the Gods. Add to this explosive mix everyones favourite Kender this is a story NOT to be missed!

4.0 out of 5 stars 3 great books, 25 Jun 2003
This set contains three books from the Dragonlance saga: Time of the Twins,War of the Twins, and Test of the Twins.

Tasslehoff, Raistlin, Caramon, and a priestess named Crysania travel back in time to visit the city of Istar.
Raistlin plots to seize the magical power of the ancient wizard Fistandantilus and challenge the Dark Queen

These are crucial titles for any Dragonlance fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love it, despite it being a bit rubbish
For sheer ideas and story, these books are fantastic. I love them to bits, even though the standard of writing is pretty shoddy.
