5.0 out of 5 stars Around the Realms in 3 days (of reading time), 19 Sep 2001

The famous gazetteer Volothamp Geddarm has always had an ego the size of a mountain, so when his reputation as the greatest traveller in the realms is questioned, he readily agree to a test proposed by the mysteriously wizard of Waterdeep, Khelben Blackstaff!? Now, Volo and his bond servant Passepout must travel the Realms from Cormyr to the Dalelands, from Chult to Halruaa, from Kara-Tur to Maztica and many other places, if they want to stay alive and survive their trip around the Realms! Even if you are new to the Realms or an experienced Realm-traveller, you will like the travels of Volo and his friend. You will learn a lot of places you never knew about and you will meet a lot of the heroes from the other novels who inhabits the realms. I'ts a story which tells us that Jules Verne hasn't lived in vain. Join Volo and visit the lands which make up the Forgotten Realms.

1.0 out of 5 stars Paperback bound bathroom tissue!, 22 May 1999
By A Customer
I feel guilty writing a review of a book that I could not bear to read in its entirity, but doesn't that describe how bad this so-called novel was?! Apparently this author thinks that if he writes in enough fleeting appearances of every popular FR character into his story then he'll have an FR novel. There was no attempt at creating a substantial plot, there was only meaningless chance encounter after chance encounter with other authors' characters. Even if the reader can accept the sheer implausibility that these famous encounters could happen one after the other, the reader would have to be disappointed by Thomsen's misuse of these people. What was he trying to accomplish? Why not develop Volo's character (he could use some) instead of butchering those that other more capable authors have so carefully constructed.
