Product Description
Synopsis
Imagine a jam-packed drive-in on a Saturday night. You're kicking back in your car with the popcorn and enjoying a good old-fashioned scary monster movie when, suddenly, the drive-in itself becomes the movie, with all its attendant thrills. And dangers. A hard-hitting combination of vivid imagery, camaraderie and terror, The Drive-In is a double feature Lansdale fans will not want to leave.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Drive-In will drive you into a fantastic high!, 31 Mar 1998
By A Customer
Yes, boys and girls of all ages, listen up! This novel is the long-awaited expansion of his short story treatment of what happens when a weird meteor, of the reanimator kind, hits a good old Drive-In where incredibly cheesy sci-fi/horror flicks of the B-variety are being shown. After reading this excellently written story, you'll wish Joe Lansdale could have cloned himself at least a dozen times. So we readers can get even more terrific stories out of him!

2.0 out of 5 stars sorry, it's just not my thing..., 15 Oct 2003

well, I love Joe Lansdale's writing, particularly the Hap and Leonard series, but I didn't go for this one. It was just too nihilistic for me, and violent without any let-up. I mean, genuiely gruesome, but without the lighter elements that add more dimensions to his other books. Definitely a B-movie, but not one I would rush to see. It was certainly imaginative, but the overall tone was just too bleak for me, and I didn't even have the heart to read the second book...
Personally I'd reccommend Mucho Mojo or Bad Chili as a much better intro to a fine, fine author.

About 9 years ago I was in jail, and I came across a copy of The Drive In....ever since it has been my favorite book. I could not find a copy anywhere until now....It definitely is required reading!
