This collection shows the end of Bruce Jones' run on Incredible Hulk. The storylines in this book feel a little tacked-on somehow- although the identity of the mysterious, sneering lips is revealed (any casual Hulk fan will probably have worked out the identity by now). That aside the story works well enough and features a classic rumble between Hulk and Iron Man. The book continues the previous trend of dark themes and imagery (it is also classed as a Marvel Knights title, unlike the others- generally darker themed). The story is truly tragic and horrific- the ending leaves the reader feeling adrift somewhat, and is a good piece of writing and illustration.
Bruce Jones' scripting is as good as before- dialogue working well, but the plotline is a little tired and is clearly tying up loose ends.
The artwork varies tremendously- featuring several artists. Some of the art is excellent (particularly in the Hulk/Iron Man sections at the start), but other work is, whilst by no means poor, not Hulk- the Hulk looks too human, too normal- too much like a green bodybuilder, rather than a ferocious gamma mutant.
Overall the book is enjoyable, and the Iron Man section particularly so- if you have followed the whole conspiracy theory story arc then it is well worth reading to finish the plot off. The overall quality is not as good as the previous volumes (particularly the first). Enjoyable enough, but almost a whimper to finish the series rather than a bang!
