5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect!, 24 Aug 2002
By A Customer
As a professional VB5/6 developer I was looking for a book to fully explain the differences between VB6 and VB.NET to enable a swift transition into .Net programming. This book achieves that goal perfectly.
The book covers all areas of the VB.net framework, including the area I was most interested in (Inheritence/polymorhism). The areas covered are written in a clear concise manner with fully explained examples. I read sections of the book whilst on holiday and fully understood the lessons contained without writing a single line of code.
Technically the book is great, although it could have a bit more information about the .Net framework, having said this, no language can be learnt properly from a single book.
This book has become the technical foundation of my .Net collection a "must have" if you like.
I would personally recommend you have a working knowledge of VB5/6 prior to purchasing this book.
If you are a VB5/6 programmer and want to transition to VB.NET get this book!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mastering VB.NET, 21 Jul 2002
By S. Bailey "trainersbuk" (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have had Angelos Petroutsos Mastering VB 6 for several years & always found it an excellent book. This was the only reason I purchased the .NET version of the book. There were a couple of disappointments with book. It did not go into enough detail about the .NET framework. It did not explain any of the code generated automatically such as forms code pre generated by the Forms Designer. None of this is essential, but I find that an explanation of what goes on in the background helps me to understand a topic better. Apart from that this is a very good book for beginners to more advanced users.

1.0 out of 5 stars This book bristles with errors, 12 May 2003
By jON (Moscow, Russia) - See all my reviews
Mr Petroutsos knows how to tell a story and I bet the book for VB6 was excellent. In fact, it would probably have got five stars, had I read it. He is not getting them for this. Some parts clearly have been written for Visual Basic .NET, but much clearly has been merely lifted from a Visual Basic 6 primer. The language has changed. Either the publishers/author were in a hurry, or the author just didn't test his code as thoroughly as he might. He does not exude incompetence.
If you have no experience of Visual Basic, or the time/patience to investigate, this book will lose you. Whatever you do, do not browse it without a keyboard nearby. His theory and code do make sense, but unfortunately not necessarily the one now settled on by Microsoft. I would not recommend this title.
